Your Mentor and Your Support Team

Your Mentor

You will be assigned a Mentor. Your mentor will oversee and assist you in the process of receiving a Professional Certificate to teach in the State of Maine. The mentor's role is one of coach and facilitator. It is the mentor's responsibility to assist you in TAP development and revision (if necessary). He or she will also be responsible for all formal observations documented on the Checklist for Final Report which is reviewed by the Steering Committee. Please review the mentor list for your building. Indicate to your building representative if you have a preference for a particular mentor. The Steering Committee will take your preference into consideration when assigning your mentor. (Please be aware that mentor assignment depends on availability and acceptance of the mentor.)

Your Support Team

If required, you will add two colleagues (certified staff) to form a support team. Please notify your building representative of your choices. Support team members, although they do not make official observations, really can be used in any way you wish to employ them. They can unofficially observe if they wish, they can assist and facilitate in any way, and generally aid you in your progress toward completion of your TAP. Support team members help you answer the who, what, where, etc. that you may have as you acclimate yourself and go through the certification process.
